When Beginning Meets His Presence

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
Before anything existed—before light, before land, before time itself—God was already present, already intentional, already moving with purpose. Genesis 1:1 isn’t just a historical statement; it’s a reminder that God is the One who steps into empty places and brings life, order, and meaning.

Every one of us has “beginnings”—new seasons, unexpected chapters, moments where we’re starting over or stepping into the unknown. And just like the very first beginning, God is already there. He doesn’t wait for things to make sense or look put together. He speaks into the dark, the formless, the uncertain, and creates something good.
Over the years, I’ve experienced many new beginnings. I remember listening to friends talk about what they wanted to do with their lives, fascinated by anyone who knew their calling early on. My journey has unfolded differently. I’ve stepped into roles that lasted for seasons—sometimes a decade at a time. Each one mattered, some overlapped, yet each one was temporary. In all, it adds up to seemingly endless beginnings.
From student to staff, to supervisor, to director, to wife, to mother, to homeschool teacher, to interpreter, to grandmother, to caretaker… every role required a new focus, a new skill set, and a new kind of courage. And now, in this present season, God has called me to step forward as an author and speaker—a role that draws from every chapter before it yet stretches me in new ways.
Walking into any new role, relationship, or challenge would have been overwhelming without God. He has marked my path, revealed necessary truths, comforted me when I fail, steadied me in every transition, and invited me to rise to new heights. Every beginning has carried His fingerprints.
Think about the “beginning” you’re in right now. It might be a new job, a new mindset, a new challenge, or a new healing journey. Instead of trying to control it or fear it, pause and remember: God is already in it. Ask Him what He’s forming, what He’s speaking, what He’s creating in you. Your beginning—whatever it looks like right now—is not empty. It’s held by the same God who shaped galaxies with a word. Beginnings aren’t meant to be rushed. When God is involved, they can be trusted.
Time to Reflect
1. What would it look like for me to let God speak first into this beginning, instead of letting my fears or assumptions take the lead?
2. Where is God prompting me to take a first step of obedience, trusting that He is already ahead of me in this new beginning?
